Professional Practice Models
If your acute care healthcare setting is seeking
to implement a professional nursing practice model, evidence-based
council and/or quality improvement program to address nursing and
patient care processes across multi-faceted layers of the organization,
UHSC is positioned to design an effective model
that ideally fits with your hospital’s or clinic’s
philosophy and mission statement.
UHSC has vast experience in implementing
shared governance models in various capacities. Shared governance
is an excellent example
of a systems approach that fully empowers and engages staff nurses
through formal/informal practice councils that allow for increased
accountability, equity, and ownership of organizational and operational
decisions. UHSC has skill in designing
and implementing evidence-based research councils and quality improvement
programs
that focus on achieving high-quality patient centered practices.
UHSC professional practice model services include the following:
- Shared Governance
- Evidence-Based Practice
- Quality Improvement Models
Accreditation and Designation Services
Healthcare institutions
are always preparing for an accreditation or designation
process—an upcoming unannounced
JCAHO site survey or planning for a long-term commitment in becoming
a trauma center or magnet designated hospital. Most, if not all,
of these site visits require global preparation that necessitates
a surplus of energy and staff engagement. For example, the magnet
recognition program, sponsored by ANCC, requires a demonstrated achievement
of “14 forces of magnetism”. Attaining the 14 forces
is not an easy process; in fact, it may take 2-3 years to conduct
a thorough system analysis, implement various professional councils,
promote staff collaboration, compile the document, and arrange for
the site visit by reviewers. Structuring for this pattern of change
requires time and resources, possibly beyond the capacity of the
nurse administrators and managers’ roles.
UHSC provides expertise in the
magnet designation process-an expert author
in the field-trauma
designation process, as well as preparing
for a JCAHO tracer methodology site survey and developing patient
safety standards.
UHSC consulting services include the following: - JCAHO Readiness
- Preparation for Magnet Designation
- Preparation for Trauma Designation
Operational Analysis and Project Management
Healthcare institutions
are continuously seeking solutions to reduce costs and improve
efficiency, while
maintaining patient safety standards
and quality of care. Various strategies can be considered to improve
the organization’s resources and return on investments such
as changes in staff mix and staffing levels, streamlining processes
to reduced
rework, reassessing staff roles and responsibilities and physical
redesign.
UHSC has vast experience in assessing
operational efficiency through assorted global strategies as work
flow analysis and system-gap analysis.
Focusing on the entire organization, and most importantly patient-centeredness,
UHSC is able to achieve sustained results that
positively impact patients, nurses and physicians. UHSC utilizes
a project management approach for designing and implementing unit-based
and/or institutional-wide
operational projects.
UHSC consulting services include the following:
- Operational Analysis/ Lean Efforts
- Assessing Workload Intensity
Team and Leadership Services
Teamwork is important
for several reasons. First, the current healthcare atmosphere is
extremely challenging
and many patient care and unit
activities are so complex they cannot be performed by individuals
and people must work together to accomplish them. Second, teams create
collaboration,
partnership, and a sense of belonging. Furthermore,
teams are structured for various purposes—specific, for
unit improvement activities; or global, for the purpose of increasing
vitality among nurses or improving quality patient care. A healthcare
team can include physicians, nurses, administrators, allied health
professionals and support staff.
UHSC has extensive experience
in implementing team and leadership strategies. UHSC
provides services to improve collaboration among team members, dispute
conflict among two groups of healthcare professionals and enhanced
group and leadership dynamics. UHSC focuses
on customer service, and how team collaboration enhances the delivery
of patient
care and a sense of pride among nurses and other healthcare
team members.
UHSC consulting services include the following:
- Vitality/ Team Building Strategies
- Transformational
Leadership
